CYCOMM TO OFFER UNIQUE MOBILE SATELLITE SERVICES

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Cycomm International (AMEX: CYI; Alberta) said it has reached agreement in principle to become the marketer and provider of clear and encrypted high speed data an voice services to the U.S. government through American Mobile Satellite Corporation's (AMSC) M-SAT satellite, which is scheduled to be launched toward the end of 1994.
AMSC, which is majority owned by McCaw Cellular Communications, GM Hughes communications and Singapore Telecom, plans to have its $500 million satellite system operational in early 1995, with coverage of the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and portions of the Caribbean Basin.
Under the planned agreement, Cycomm will contract for access to the satellite from National Satellite Networks Inc. (NSN) which has contracted with AMSC to market nationwide data and voice services to government and public safety agencies, transportation companies and other customers. NSN recently agreed to build a data hub within the AMSC facility at Reston, Va. Additionally, Cycomm said it is in negotiation for the purchase of up to 20 percent of NSN.
Services to the U.S. government will be offered by Cycomm International's wholly owned subsidiary, Cycomm Corporation, which will incorporate its proprietary encryption technology and other value added features into AMSC compatible mobile terminals. The Cycomm service will allow users to transmit and receive secure voice and high speed data without interruption, regardless of their location within the satellite's coverage area. The service will also provide location positioning and allow for continuous monitoring of fixed and mobile pollution sources for compliance with federal emission standards.
Cycomm officials said revenue under the planned agreement would come from sales of its anti-eavesdropping technology and user time.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to expand out technologies into this market and share in the revenue stream provided by the services offered. Our objective is to provide our customers with high speed secure data and voice services on an extremely cost effective basis," said Philip Garratt, president of Cycomm International.
Cycomm International Inc. and its subsidiaries develop and market unique telecommunication products and services for the transmission of secure voice, fax and data. Cycomm's technology is currently being developed for incorporation into the new generation of fixed point cellular systems and small hand held cellular telephones. In addition, cellular hand held phones, incorporating protocol matching and privacy, will become data gateways for laptop or notebook computers into the cellular network.
