CYCLIST SERGEANT WINS A BICYCLE IN CHARITY RAFFLE.

So it was that much more appropriate that Bistline's first-place prize in the station's internal raffle was a new mountain bike -- even though he bought just one $1 ticket.

The raffle benefited the Sheriff Department's "999 for Kids" charity for physically and mentally disabled mentally disabled See Cognitively impaired.  foster children who are victims of abuse and neglect.

The department started the charity in 1985 to fund items for these special-needs children such as wheelchairs, computers and classes.

The charity uses the 999 police code for urgent assistance.

"We thought it was fitting to apply to the fund," sheriff's Deputy Dave Jennings David Tuthill Jennings (born June 8, 1952 in New York, New York) was an [  said. "These kids need help urgently."

Jennings said the raffle helped the department exceed a $1,000 goal the department established for each unit, raising $1,355 for the fund. Units consist mostly of sheriff's stations.

"I love cycling, and my bike was due for an overhaul, " Bistline said.

Bicycle John's owner Mike Grace donated the raffle's top prize for a second straight year.

"We have a really good relationship with the sheriff's (deputies) and we just felt that it's important to help these children any way we can," Grace said.
