WHEN the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.

These words by British author Arthur Conan Doyle put up on the Pedal Yatri website sum up best the sentiments of the Gurgaon- based bicycling enthusiasts.

Most of the members are toplevel professionals in their late 30s or 40s and on any given day, find themselves squeezed between family and work. They don't have an option on a weekday, but come Saturday and they all hit the dirt Verb 1. hit the dirt - fall or drop suddenly, usually to evade some danger; "The soldiers hit the dirt when they heard gunfire"

On the other hand, the jaunts also give these enthusiasts a reality check on the pathetic pa·thet·ic   also pa·thet·i·cal
