CYBULSKI SIGNS LETTER TO RUN FOR THE BRUINS.

Royal High of Simi Valley distance standout Michael Cybulski, the two- time defending state champion at 3,200 meters, has signed a letter of intent with UCLA.

Cybulski, who broke the all-time Marmonte League cross country record last week, considered offers from Oregon and Kentucky before deciding on UCLA after a recent recruiting trip.

Cybulski joins former teammate Kevin Sullivan, a freshman at UCLA, while at least two more Highlanders could commit to UCLA as early as this month, according to Royal coach Ryan Luce.

No. 3 runner Danny Benson and No. 4 runner Jun Reichl have expressed serious interest in the school, and No. 2 runner Hudson Andrews is considering both UCLA and Princeton.

Royal is ranked No. 3 in the nation this season by Harrier magazine, and placed sixth in the nation last year.

The UCLA men's cross country team, which has never placed better than fifth in the nation, has one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

Westlake's Cory Primm, the defending state champion at 800 meters, signed with the Bruins today, while Torrance standout Kent Morikawa will also attend UCLA.

Saugus' Shannon Murakami, the defending state Div. I girls' cross country champion, also signed a letter of intent with the Bruins on the first day of the NCAA early-signing period.
