It's fun. The good, guilty kind. Time-wasting games, wireless chat, Internet e-mail, even friend finder, a kind of digital dating service popular in Japan a few years back. Once you fill out a personal profile ("tall, dark and handsome seeks vivacious international lady," or whatever you feel like inventing) the device scans the waves for a match. If your match is nearby and carrying a live Cybiko, both devices buzz away in your respective pockets.

* The Bad

What if your soul mate is not carrying a Cybiko? More realistically, it's a bit bigger and bulkier than similar two-way pagers that are all the rage in club land. If the device flops--and similar ideas burned out over the last year for lack of customers-you're all alone on this platform.

* Who Should Buy

Pre-teens will eat this up. It's a Game Boy-style handheld that let's you chat across the classroom.

* Who Should Not

The business world will definitely pass, even though Cybiko touts some productivity software. If you like the funky colors, check into a Handspring personal digital assistant instead.
