CYBERSPORTS AT LEAST SUBWAY SERIES HAS SOME WORLDWIDE FLAIR.

Byline: - Tom Hoffarth

There isn't enough media coverage of the Subway Series, so thankfully the Information Superhighway has a few more exits.

The official Major League Baseball site (www.mlb.com) powered by SportsLine.com has the official info, which can also be accessed through www.worldseries.com. There is some surprisingly entertaining nonpress release-type content, including a ``true look'' Web cam See Webcam. taking pictures at the park at all hours.

The unofficial main depot is at www.nysubwayseries.com, maintained by a company called NYCSports.com. Along with links to nine regional newspapers - from the Staten Island Advance to the New York Post - there's also a ticket giveaway contest for Game 4. To enter, e-mail a photo of yourself in your favorite team's garb GARB - Garment and Allied Industries Requirements Board
GARB - General Association of Regular Baptists
GARB - Grissom Air Reserve Base
GARB - Guided Antiradiation Bomb
 and look silly.

--The domain name www.worldseries.cc is up for bid on eBay.com, starting at a hefty $5,000. No takers so far.

While you're there not bidding on it, check out the action on bidding for Babe Ruth's final contract, a three-year deal with the Boston Braves signed in 1935.

The document (item number 474355348) is from a recent Sotheby's auction, part of the Barry Halper collection of baseball memorabilia. A minimum bid of $500,000 is required, with at least 80 percent of the proceeds donated to Los Angeles' City of Hope Cancer Center in connection with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

--An interesting take on World Series by the numbers comes from Dr. Jay Bennett, a member of the Statistics in Sports section of the American Statistical Association (ASA).

His calculation called Player Game Percentage (PGP) attempts to identify which players' performances are most valuable to their team's victory. A daily analysis of each Series game is on the ASA Web site at www.amstat.org/sections/sis.
