CYBERSPORT : CAUGHT IN THE WEB.

A review of a tennis site on the Web begins, of course, with a backhanded compliment A backhanded compliment or left-handed compliment or is an insult disguised as a compliment. It is generally used to belittle or condescend, or often one uses a backhanded compliment when one wants to insult someone in a subtle way. .

The folks putting on the U.S. Open The term U.S. Open is applied to "open" United States national championships in a particular sport, in which anybody, amateur or professional, American or non-American may compete. These include:

this week have created a nifty home page, complete with a virtual reality tour of the new Arthur Ashe Stadium Arthur Ashe Stadium, located in Flushing Meadows Park, is the main tennis stadium of the U.S. Open, the last of each year's four Grand Slam tournaments. The stadium is also where the annual Arthur Ashe Kids Day takes place. . But the site, www.usopen.com, seemed to be down for the entire weekend, so we couldn't see just how great it might have been.

We did, however, manage to access quite easily ``Tennis Country,'' which despite its low-grade cartoon graphics is a well-rounded site for tennis buffs, both players and fans.

Calling itself the ``total tennis site on the Internet,'' tennis country provides updated tournament results and news, upcoming tournament schedules, player biographies, even a history of the men's and women's No. 1s of all time.

There's also a useful pronunciation guide to help avoid tongue damage while saying ``Arantxa'' or ``Ivanisevic.''

Beyond tracking the pros, Tennis Country also serves as its own, nonexclusive tennis club. Anyone can join, and the site boasts members from more than 50 countries, and get this, membership is free.

To improve your game, the site includes pages of tennis tips from Peter Burwash Peter Burwash (b. February 10, 1945 Brockville, Ontario[1][2]) is Canadian athlete, tennis coach, television commentator, motivational speaker and writer. Tennis career

Under the oddly named ``gossip'' section, there's real-time tennis chat with other Tennis Country members. There's also a poll: current topic, ``Will Steffi Graf be No. 1 again?''

There is, of course, the obligatory online store and a few sales pitches, but they're offset with links to Chris Evert's charity work.

Finally, Tennis Country helps you take your overhead smashes on the road, with a travel guide for tennis-oriented vacations and a partner-matching service so you never have to serve and volley The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.
