CYANAMID LICENSES TRADEMARK RIGHTS TO CYGON (DIMETHOATE) INSECTICIDE TO WILBUR-ELLIS COMPANY

WAYNE, N.J., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- American Cyanamid Company (NYSE: ACY) announced today that it had exited the U.S. dimethoate business by licensing its trademark and selling its remaining inventories of CYGON(R) 400 insecticide to the Wilbur-Ellis Company of San Francisco.
Under the agreement, which takes effect immediately, Wilbur-Ellis receives exclusive rights to the trademark CYGON 400, and a license to manufacture and sell CYGON in the U.S. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"CYGON has been a very solid product for us, but it does not fit with our strategic focus for the future," said William F.R. Griffith III, vice president of Cyanamid's Agricultural Products Division. "Our plan is to continue marketing and developing a variety of novel, proprietary products for U.S. growers," Griffith added.
CYGON 400 is used to control a variety of insects including aphids, mites, lygus bugs, thrips, and leaf miners on a number of important U.S. crops.
Wilbur-Ellis is one of the nation's largest distributors of agricultural chemicals, fertilizers and other farm inputs. The company markets products through direct outlets and dealers in the Western and Southern United States and through a reseller distribution network in the Midwest.
"We are pleased to add a proven product like CYGON 400 to our lineup of products," said Keith Kuechmann, director of business development of Wilbur-Ellis. "We can maintain and build upon the market for CYGON through our retail and wholesale network," Kuechmann added.
Wilbur-Ellis maintains divisional offices in Fresno, Calif.; West Burlington, Iowa; Edinburg, Texas; Union Gap, Wash.; with headquarters in San Francisco. The Wilbur-Ellis' order desk can be reached at 800-937-3446.
