Bio-Tracking Vehicle Security System

Performance Evaluation Report

This evaluation report contains data obtained from our own laboratory tests and actual vehicle installations from August 8, 2003 to July 9, 2004.

System Components:

Fingerprint ID Optical Scanner module FP-OP7, serial numbers FP1003, FP1005, FP1006. (Fingerprint Reader)

System Controller Module BTM BTM

See: Book to market.
1, serial numbers BTM-1001, BTM-1002. (Vehicle Interface unit, connects to Fingerprint reader and controls the Remote Cut-Off wireless modules)

Remote Cut-Off modules RC1, serial numbers RC-1001, RC-1002. (Receives wireless commands from the System Controller module through the existing Vehicle wiring and turns off critical vehicle components like fuel pump, ignition and injection systems.)

Topics Covered:

1 - Overall system performance

2 - Electrostatic Discharge (ESD (1) (Electronic Software Distribution) Distributing new software and upgrades via the network rather than individual installations on each machine. See ESL. )

3 - Temperature

4 - Flammability

1 - Overall system performance

The system has been upgraded with the following firmware revisions:

September 5, 2003 V3.01 Vehicle entry delay and system logic

October 4, 2003 V3.07 Remote control protocol

October 12, 2003 V4.02 Speech sub-system

October 17, 2003 V4.06 Speech sub- system

The system was evaluated over a total of 1876 vehicle activations, with the following results:

6 login errors, corrected by firmware (controller built-in software) upgrade V3.01

2 remote control lockouts conditions, corrected by firmware upgrade V3.07

3 valet-mode lockout lockout, intentional closing up of a company, factory, or shop by an employer to prevent employees from working during a strike or labor dispute. The term lockout  conditions, corrected by firmware upgrade V3.07

Following user suggestions, several voice prompts were added or replaced, these changes were reflected in the firmware upgrades V4.02 and V4.03

Since the last firmware upgrade dated October 17, 2003, the system has been operating flawlessly within specifications.

2 - Electrostatic Discharge (EDS (Electronic Data Systems, Plano, TX, www.eds.com) Founded in 1962 by H. Ross Perot (independent candidate for the President of the U.S. in 1992), EDS is the largest outsourcing and data processing services organization in the country. )

All assemblies and modules have been tested according to the following standards:

Contact Discharge IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission, Geneva, Switzerland, www.iec.ch) An organization that sets international electrical and electronics standards founded in 1906. It is made up of national committees from over 60 countries.

IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission
1000-4-2, Level +/-6kV

Air-Gap Discharge IEC1999-4-2, Level 3 +/-6kV

The ESD Direct contact and Air Discharge test was conducted as follows:

With Battery (-) connected to ground, at temperature = 25 degrees C, a single pulse ESD test was done at each connector pin of each module for each ESD voltage level.

The ESD voltage level was incremented up to level 3, +/- 6kV with no adverse consequences, passing all tests.

3 - Temperature

All assemblies and modules have been tested using an environmental chamber from Associated Environmental System model FD-208, with no reported failures.

The following test methods were used:

1 - Single cycle from ambient temperature to +70 degrees C than down to -40 degrees C, within 2 hours.

2 - Single cycle from ambient temperature to -40 degrees C than up to -70 degrees C, within 2 hours.

3 - Multiple cycles from +70 degrees C than down to -40 degrees C within 6 hours, for a total time of 72 hours.

All assemblies and modules have been tested in actual vehicle installations for the above-mentioned period of time, with no reported failures.

The following test equipment was used:

Non-Contact infrared thermometer, Raytek MT.

Atkins K thermocouple thermometer model 39658-K

The lowest inside vehicle temperature of -34 degrees C was registered January 15, 2004 at 5:37AM, at the city of Lachenay, Quebec.

The highest inside vehicle temperature of 63 degrees C was registered August 13, 2003 at 2:27PM at the city of St-Laurent, Quebec.

4 - Flammability

All assemblies and modules have successfully passed the flammability tests as per CSA (1) (Canadian Standards Association, Toronto, Ontario, www.csa.ca) A standards-defining organization founded in 1919. It is involved in many industries, including electronics, communications and information technology.  C22.2 No 0.6, Test A and UL 94-5V, the Standard for Flammability of Plastic Materials for parts in Devices and Appliances. This Standard is compatible with IEC 60707,60695-11-10, 60695-11-20, ISO (1) See ISO speed.

(2) (International Organization for Standardization, Geneva, Switzerland, www.iso.ch) An organization that sets international standards, founded in 1946. The U.S. member body is ANSI.
9772 and ISO9773.

Conclusions

The system performend as specified without any failures except for the login errors, remote control and valet mode lockouts, which were corrected by firmware upgrades at an early stage of the test.

During the test period, the Bio-Tracking Vehicle Security system has been subjected to laboratory ESD tests and temperature extremes that will not be encountered in actual installations.

These tests have helped us to validate the system design and performance and to make sure that the production units will operate without temperature or electrical discharge related failures.
