CWG delegates happy.

Fennell says everyone wants to work together for asuccessful Games

IT TURNED out to be a hectic day for the 100- odd delegates from overseas who travelled the whole day to do site checks at various venues getting ready to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games Commonwealth games, series of amateur athletic meets held among citizens of countries in the Commonwealth of Nations. Originated (1930) as the British Empire games, the series is held every four years and is patterned after the Olympic games; women have participated .

The delegates were split into two groups and taken from the Ashoka Hotel to the Games Village, where they got to see what kind of hospitality the city was going to provide the athletes coming from various parts of the world. After that, they were taken to the IG Stadium, Nehru Stadium, Thyagaraja sports complex, SP Mukherjee aquatic complex, Talkatora Stadium, National Stadium and rounded it off with a visit to the Organising Committee headquarters in Connaught Place Connaught Place is a place name of various places in the world:

As they ended the day at the OC headquarters, one man who has been in the news for a while looked tired but still pleased.

Yes, Mike Fennell, the Commonwealth Games Federation president, reluctantly spoke. " I want to be very fair to New Delhi. All of us want to work for the success of the Games," he told M AIL AIL 1. A few more scribes tried to probe Fennell but he was not going to say much, having rung the alarm bells almost a month back. " I can only tell you it has been a very busy day. The process of seeing the city and the venues is going on and we will get back to you on Monday," he said.

Most of the delegates seemed very happy with the model flats they got to see at the Games Village.

The plush rooms which were shown to the delegates have become a hit. Most of them were impressed with the size of the rooms, the granite flooring and the interiors. " It's very impressive and one of the best accommodations I have seen for athletes," said John Wells John Wells may be:

" The building looks good and the facilities are very good. I look forward to bringing my team from South Africa." he said.

One man who has been to India almost ten times before and has seen huge improvement is Vivian Gungaram from Mauritius.

" From what I have seen today, your organising committee seems to be working. The Games Village looks really good.

I have no hesitation in saying it is bigger and better than Melbourne and even the Beijing Olympics. Once the Village is complete, it has to be maintained well," said Gungaram.

He also made a special mention of the Thyagaraja complex, where the netball netball

event will be held. " I have not seen such a unique stadium being built before," he said.

Elaborating more on the city's readiness, Gungaram said the security was impressive. " From the time we landed at the airport and the way we were taken around the city today, security is a big concern which is being addressed by the government. I also think the World Cup hockey will be held at a nice venue ( National Stadium)," he added.

At the end of the day, Lalit Bhanot, secretary general of the Organising Committee, summed up the day's proceedings. " The feedback from the delegates who went to various venues has been very encouraging. Apart from the stadia, they have also said that the work being done in terms of logistics, routing and transport is in the right direction.

We are open to all suggestions," said Bhanot.

" It is a tradition in the Commonwealth Games that one year before the Games, delegates from overseas are shown the city and the various stadia. We will work harder to ensure the city has a great Games," added Bhanot.

The only discordant note came from a Canadian delegate who said that New Delhi was lagging behind. His comments were understandable as Canada had lost the bid to New Delhi for hosting the Games.
