:CVS) announced today that Doug Callihan, currently CVS.com's Vice President of Merchandising and Pharmacy, has been named the new President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of CVS.com.

In his new role as President and CEO, Callihan will oversee the continued growth and success of the nation's first online pharmacy This article or section may deal primarily with the U.S. and may not present a worldwide view.  that is fully integrated with traditional stores. Callihan has been instrumental in CVS.com's ongoing efforts to develop a larger offering of health care products, services and information. As a founding executive of CVS.com, Callihan has been involved in all operations of CVS.com. He was instrumental in facilitating the recent alliance between CVS.com and Healtheon/WebMD and has also directed the process of integrating healthcare-related merchandise as part of CVS.com's extensive product offering.

Callihan replaces the company founder Thomas Pigott, who launched the first online pharmacy, Soma soma (sō`mə), psychotropic plant, the juice of which was sometimes drunk as part of the Vedic sacrifice (see Veda).
