This statistic allows investors to determine what portion of new sales has come from sales growth and what portion from the opening of
 for the four weeks ended October 27, 2001 increased 8.1% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 11.7%, while front-end same store sales increased 1.4%.

Total sales for the four-week period ended October 27, 2001 increased 8.6% to $1.74 billion, compared to $1.60 billion in the prior year period. Total pharmacy sales represented 67.5% of total company sales in October.

Year-to-date, same store sales for the forty-three week period ended October 27, 2001 increased 9.0% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 13.9%, while front-end same store sales increased 0.5%. Total sales for the forty-three week period increased 11.3% to $18.03 billion, compared to $16.20 billion in 2000.
