: CVS) today announced that total sales for the four-week period ended January 31, 2004 increased 6.9% to $2.04 billion, compared to $1.91 billion in the prior year period. January sales were negatively impacted by severe winter weather in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

This statistic allows investors to determine what portion of new sales has come from sales growth and what portion from the opening of
 (sales from stores open more than one year) for the four weeks ended January 31, 2004 increased 5.6% over the comparable prior year four-week period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 8.2%, while front-end same store sales decreased 0.2%. Total pharmacy sales represented 71.1% of total company sales in January.
