, based on a comparable 28-day period, increased 7.3%, while pharmacy same store sales rose 13.0%. February sales were negatively impacted by a significant drop in flu- related illness across CVS' primary markets in comparison to last year.

Total sales for the four-week period ended February 26, 2000 increased 10.2% to $1.482 billion, compared to $1.344 billion in the prior year period. Total pharmacy sales represented 60% of total company sales in February.

Year-to-date, same store sales for the eight-week period ended February 26, 2000 increased 8.5% over the prior year period, while pharmacy same store sales increased 14.1%. Total sales for the eight-week period increased 11.5% to $2.902 billion, compared to $2.603 billion in 1999.

As of February 26, 2000, CVS operated 4,073 stores in 26 states and the District of Columbia District of Columbia, federal district (2000 pop. 572,059, a 5.7% decrease in population since the 1990 census), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), on the east bank of the Potomac River, coextensive with the city of Washington, D.C. (the capital of the United States). .
