: CVS) today announced that total sales for the four-week period ended February 28, 2004 increased 7.3% to $2.13 billion, compared to $1.98 billion in the prior year period.

This statistic allows investors to determine what portion of new sales has come from sales growth and what portion from the opening of
 (sales from stores open more than one year) for the four weeks ended February 28, 2004 increased 5.4% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 7.5%, while front-end same store sales increased 1.0%. Total pharmacy sales represented 68.9% of total company sales in February.

Year-to-date, total sales for the eight-week period ended February 28, 2004, increased 7.1% to $4.17 billion, compared to $3.89 billion in 2003. Same store sales for the eight-week period increased 5.5% over the prior year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 7.9%, while front-end same store sales increased 0.4%.
