) today announced that co-founder and Co-President, Prof. Dr. Thomas J. Stegmann, M.D., has received the prestigious international honor of being elected as full member of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences.

In the presence of Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine The Prime Minister of Ukraine (Ukrainian: Прем'єр-міністр України  Dmytro Tabachnyk, Dr. Stegmann unanimously was elected by all 98 distinguished members of the Academy during an event hosted by Prof Dr. Aleksandr Vozianov, President of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences. Membership into the Academy is a lifetime appointment, and only a few foreign scientists have received the honor of being elected as full member. The Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences was founded in 1918, and today represents all major medical and scientific institutions in Ukraine. It is the most elite health care council in Ukraine and the Academy's budget is financed by the federal government.

At the July 4th event in Kiev, Dr. Stegmann presented his recent scientific contributions in a talk entitled "Angiogenesis angiogenesis /an·gio·gen·e·sis/ (-jen´e-sis) vasculogenesis; development of blood vessels either in the embryo or in the form of neovascularization or revascularization.

Dr. Stegmann was the first surgeon to successfully accomplish angiogenesis therapy in the human heart.
