CUSTOMERS OF PHILADELPHIA SUBURBAN WATER COMPANY BREAK RECORD FOR WATER USAGE OVER WEEKEND

BRYN MAWR, Pa., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers of Philadelphia Suburban Water Company (PSW) set a new record for usage last weekend when they used more than 118.5 million gallons of water, exceeding the former record of 117.5 million gallons set in June 1988, a company spokesperson said today.
"The record usage can be attributed to the week-long heatwave that continued through the weekend keeping temperatures around the 100 degree mark," said company Chairman Nicholas DeBenedictis. "Our sendout and consumption had been climbing steadily since the beginning of last week."
Since the 1988 record, PSW has added two additional water systems to its territory which accounted for an additional 3.7 million gallons of water which contributed to the record. Despite the record usage, DeBenedictis said PSW's reservoirs, which hold 9 billion gallons of water, remain above 90 percent capacity. "We still have plenty of water available, but people should continue to use it wisely. If the heatwave continues without any significant precipitation, we could see our capacity begin to decrease."
PSW serves 800,000 customers in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties.
