CUSTOM FIT... 'MARIE ANTOINETTE' LOOKS GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT.Byline: Semhar Debessai Staff Writer Stylists looked to the red carpet Sunday for fashion trends, but the one Oscar category where fashion really counts is achievement in costume design. Some of the candy-colored fashions seen on the red carpet could have been inspired by the palette winner Milena Canonero used in her designs for "Marie Antoinette Marie Antoinette (ăntwənĕt`, äNtwänĕt`), 1755–93, queen of France, wife of King Louis XVI and daughter of Austrian Archduchess Maria Theresa and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I. She was married in 1770 to the dauphin, who became king in 1774.." Canonero is no stranger to Oscar, having been nominated for eight Academy Awards and winning two for "Barry Lyndon" (1975) and "Chariots of Fire" (1981). But even when finding herself on that stage for the third time, Canonero was visibly overwhelmed and appreciative. "I want to thank Francis (Coppola) for introducing me to Sofia (Coppola) when we did 'Cotton Club,'" an emotional Canonero said. "She was this (indicating with hand a small height), and now she is my director ... her movies are like poems." Canonero chose pinks, yellows and greens in her 18th-century costumes in "Marie Antoinette." She had said her inspiration, in part, came from the familiar song by Bow Wow Wow called "I Want Candy."
