CUSTOM FIT... 'MARIE ANTOINETTE' LOOKS GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT.

Byline: Semhar Debessai

Stylists looked to the red carpet Sunday for fashion trends, but the one Oscar category where fashion really counts is achievement in costume design Costume design is the design of the appearance of the characters in a theater or cinema performance. This usually involves designing or choosing clothing, footwear, hats and head dresses for the actors to wear, but it may also include designing masks, makeup or other unusual forms, .

Some of the candy-colored fashions seen on the red carpet could have been inspired by the palette winner Milena Canonero used in her designs for "Marie Antoinette Marie Antoinette (ăntwənĕt`, äNtwänĕt`), 1755–93, queen of France, wife of King Louis XVI and daughter of Austrian Archduchess Maria Theresa and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I. ."

Canonero is no stranger to Oscar, having been nominated nom·i·nate

for eight Academy Awards and winning two for "Barry Lyndon" (1975) and "Chariots of Fire" (1981).

But even when finding herself on that stage for the third time, Canonero was visibly overwhelmed o·ver·whelm

"I want to thank Francis (Coppola) for introducing me to Sofia (Coppola) when we did 'Cotton Club,'" an emotional Canonero said. "She was this (indicating with hand a small height), and now she is my director ... her movies are like poems."

Canonero chose pinks, yellows and greens in her 18th-century costumes in "Marie Antoinette." She had said her inspiration, in part, came from the familiar song by Bow Wow Wow Bow Wow Wow was a 1980s New Wave band organized by Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren in 1980 whose music is described as having an "African-derived drum sound".[1] History  called "I Want Candy."
