CURTIS ARCHIVES WINS LICENSE FROM U.S. GOVERNMENT; COMPANY TO LICENSE PRODUCTS COMMEMORATING WORLD WAR II

INDIANAPOLIS, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Curtis Archives, a licensing and marketing division of The Curtis Publishing Company, announced it has been selected by the U.S. government as the exclusive licensor of products commemorating World War II.
The company will work closely with the Department of Defense 50th Anniversary of World War II Commemoration Committee to coordinate merchandising efforts for this program whose main purpose is to honor the veterans, their families, and those who served on the home front, and to provide a greater understanding of the lessons and history of World War II.
It is hoped that the commemoration will encourage the study of the history of this era, so that this knowledge will help to ensure a safer and better tomorrow.
A portion of the proceeds from the licensing efforts will go toward furthering the committee's educational programs. Educational resource materials include commemorative posters, historical documents, brochures, books, bookmarks, screen presentations, audio-cassettes, factsheets, quarterly newsletters, certificates of appreciation and other commemorative memorabilia.
Commemorative activities will be held throughout the world with nearly 1,000 designated World War II "commemorative communities" to date; additional communities are being accepted at a significant rate. Designated commemorative communities are committed to plan at least three educational or commemorative events per year for the duration of the commemorative period which ends Veteran's Day 1995. Major events are currently planned throughout the commemoration in Chicago, Washington, New York, Honolulu, and New Orleans, just to name a few.
Curtis Archives will oversee the licensing of copyrighted and trademarked logos created under the authority of the commemoration committee. These logos will be licensed on a limited basis for use on official merchandise which will be marketed worldwide.
Proposed merchandise will be evaluated for its dignity and patriotic content as well as its ability to inform and educate. Products under consideration include accessories, apparel, gifts, collectibles, memorabilia, novelties, souvenirs, books, stationery, and children's educational items. Premium promotion programs will also be pursued by Curtis Archives.
Curtis Archives is the licensor for the "Saturday Evening Post's" copyrighted illustrations, including works by Norman Rockwell, J.C. Leyendecker, N.C. Wyeth, J. Clymer, and many other artists. Curtis' archives contain many historical illustrations and literature including Benjamin Franklin's "Pennsylvania Gazette." Curtis Archives also represents Brown & Bigelow and Hearst Magazines.
The firm has worldwide representation in North America, Asia, and Europe and has grown to become one of the premier licensing organizations in the world. The firm's current list of clients include Walt Disney, Hardees, and Hallmark.
