The CRA See Community Reinvestment Act.  urged the City Council to back negotiations with the proposal's developer, CIM (1) (Computer-Integrated Manufacturing) Integrating office/accounting functions with automated factory systems. ``We felt (CIM Group) would introduce a unique destination business into the area by creating a catalytic project and upgrading the existing commercial mix,'' Commission Chairman Paul Hudson

The 9,500-square-foot theater at 18447 Sherman Way was purchased by the CRA in 2004 for $1.94 million. No estimate was available Thursday on projected renovation costs.

Councilman Dennis Zine, who represents the area, favors moving ahead with the project, aides said.

``The councilman is excited about the prospect of changing an area that has become blighted over the years,'' spokeswoman Jennifer Forkish said. ``We are particularly pleased they are going to keep it as a theater to retain the historical perspective of Reseda.''

The theater renovation would be the latest area improvement effort. The CRA said it has spent $1l.4 million for underground power lines, sponsored storefront improvements and is nearing completion of a $900,000 streetscape street·scape
