Byline: Enrique Rivero Daily News Staff Writer

Local culture is riding the information superhighway.

Hoping to boost the awareness of city residents - and the world - in its arts and humanities offerings, the Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  Cultural Arts Center has created a World Wide Web site listing coming performances, along with ticket information, history and other facts.

what's happening in the center,'' said Fred Helsel, assistant general manager of the performing arts venue.

Since going on line in November, the Web site has been doing just what center officials hoped it would, Helsel said.

``We have had people call and we've asked them, how did you hear about us? And they said, we saw you on the Internet,'' he said.

The Web site was created by Steve Fowler Steve Fowler is currently group editor of What Car? which includes the magazines What Car?, What Car? New Car Guide, What Car? Price Guide and the website whatcar.com.  - owner of Sound Electro Flight, which specializes in Web sites.

``It's up and running,'' Fowler said. ``Right now, it's pretty much a complete and functional Web site,'' he said.

The Web site features detailed descriptions of events - current productions and coming attractions Noun 1. coming attraction - a movie that is advertised to draw customers

It also includes historical information about the 73-year-old center, which formerly served as a Methodist church. It also lists the names and phone numbers of center staff members.

A new feature is a so-called hyper A Greek work meaning "above" or "more than." Click on a given date and up pops the detailed listing.

The site is still evolving. One feature that Fowler is eager to see is an on-line photo tour of the renovated building, which opened as the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center in November 1995.

The tour would give Web surfers a peek inside the renovated facility - neoclassical ne·o·clas·si·cism also Ne·o·clas·si·cism

``Until I went inside I didn't realize that it was really a state-of-the-art facility,'' Fowler said.

Helsel said the Web site gives the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center a wider exposure than it might otherwise have.

When singer-actress Shirley Jones Shirley Mae Jones (born March 31, 1934) is an Academy Award-winning singer and actress, perhaps best known for her role as "Shirley Partridge," the widowed single mother of five children, in the television series The Partridge Family  was set to perform at the center's first-anniversary celebration, for example, fans were attracted from outside California by information posted on the Web site, Helsel said.

``It's nice to be able to have people from throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America.
