 CULBRO CORPORATION REELECTS VINCENT TO BOARD
 AND ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION
 NEW YORK, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Culbro Corporation (NYSE: CUC) today announced that its board of directors had reelected to the board Francis T. Vincent, Jr., former commissioner of major league baseball. Edgar M. Cullman, chairman and chief executive officer of Culbro said that, "We are delighted that Fay was able to rejoin our board. We look forward to his counsel and support." Vincent had resigned in July of 1991 because of the press of his baseball duties.
 When he joined the board in 1989, Vincent was executive vice president of The Coca-Cola Company and president of its Entertainment Business Sector. Before joining Coca-Cola he headed Columbia Pictures. Vincent, a graduate of Yale Law School, previously was associate director of the Division of Corporation Finance of the Securities and Exchange Commission and had specialized in corporate banking and securities matters in private practice.
 Culbro also announced that its board had approved the purchase of the Ashland, Virginia distribution business of Capital Cigar and Tobacco Company, Inc. by the Eli Witt Company, its wholesale distribution operation headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Capital is selling its assets pursuant to its Bankruptcy Proceedings. The Ashland operation has sales approximating $100,000,000 in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.
 Culbro is a diversified consumer and industrial products company with interests in cigars, wholesale distribution of tobacco and sundry consumer products, labeling systems and packaging machinery, real estate and landscape nursery stock.
