CUH2A Receives AIA NJ Awards for Design and Sustainability.PRINCETON, N.J. -- CUH2A CUH2A Collins Uhl Hoisington Anderson Azmy (founding partners of Princeton, NJ architecture engineering & planning firm) received both an Honor Award and a Merit Award at the annual AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture NJ Design Conference held at Montclair State University History Montclair State was established in 1908 as "Montclair Normal School" in response to a growing need for teachers. It was renamed "Montclair State Teachers College" in 1927, when it developed a program of educating secondary school teachers through a Bachelor of Arts earlier this month. The awards for design and sustainability went to two projects: the Dubiotech Headquarters Complex and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is one of nine United States Department of Energy (DOE) multiprogram national laboratories. The laboratory PNNL is located in Richland, Washington, and operates a marine research facility in Sequim, Washington. (PNNL PNNL Pacific Northwest National Laboratory ). Both projects were designed using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction. (LEED[R]) certification criteria. AIA NJ awarded the Dubiotech Complex the highest honor, the only Honor Award for an un-built project. According to the juror's notes, the Dubai project "addresses environmental issues but uses new moves" and "creates new vision for this part of the world." PNNL received a Merit Award, with jurors commenting on the solar orientation, response to the desert, and design of subterranean space. "We are proud to be recognized for excellence in design, and we are convinced that these awards confirm what we have always known -- that our projects exemplify clear design vision and our commitment to sustainability," says Scott Butler, president of CUH2A. These two awards come on the heels of two other AIA awards: a citation award from the AIA Potomac Valley for the C.W. Bill Young Center in Bethesda, MD; and a Collaborative Merit Award for Excellence in Architectural Design from AIA Cincinnati to BHDP Architecture with CUH2A for the Procter & Gamble Central Building Lobby Renovation.
