CUE THE MUSIC; Contest hits a high note as bands battle for votes BATTLE OF THE BANDS.

PREPARE to meet Tyneside's undiscovered bands.

Musicians young and old are lining up to take part in the Chronicle's Battle of the Bands competition.

Entries have been flooding in and now the top five are facing the public vote.

The winning band will get the chance to win a week of recording time in a professional music studio.

Chronicle readers can check out the acts and vote for their favourite by visiting www.chroniclelive.co.uk

The winners will be given the chance to record at the Blast Recording Studio, in Byker, Newcastle, and will be able to produce 500 copies of their tracks.

The top five acts will be the bands who get the biggest share of the readers' votes, and a judging panel made-up of Chronicle entertainment editor Gordon Barr, Gary Beckwith, editor of our The Locals blog, Janet Heaney, Evening Chronicle The Evening Chronicle is a daily, evening newspaper produced in Newcastle upon Tyne, covering Tyne and Wear, southern Northumberland and northern County Durham. It was founded in 1885 by Joseph Cowan.  promotions executive and Karen and Steve from Blast Recording.

Gordon Barr said: "We live in a great region for up-and-coming talent and the response to this competition really reflects this.

"I'm looking forward to hearing some great new bands and judging them will be a pleasure."

Bands from across the region have been submitting their demos to be in with a chance in the talent clash.

Among them are Seven Heroes, from Sherburn, County Durham Sherburn is a large village in County Durham, in England. It is situated a short distance to the east of Durham. External links

Also entering are Artisian Well, who were formed in early 2007 by Scottish songwriter Andy Johnson.
