CUBS, STUDENTS DECORATE PLACE MATS FOR SENIORS.

Byline: Daily News

SAUGUS - Cub Scout Bears Den 2 Pack 577 and pupils at Rosedell Elementary School made 650 place mats decorated with Halloween drawings that were distributed Oct. 31 to recipients of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center's Home Delivered Meals program.

Scout Leader Nancy Beg came up with the idea after learning of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center's need for a new delivery truck to deliver hot meals.

Knowing, however, that her 11 Cub Scouts could not make all the place mats required, Beg sought the help of Rosedell Principal Susan Bender. The response was overwhelming, and almost all of the teachers, as well as the day-care center and preschoolers, made Halloween place mats for the project. Extras were distributed to local firefighters and a convalescent home.

The senior center's Home Delivered Meals program also is in need of volunteers who can contribute as little as two hours a week. The department serves an average of 250 meals each day with a combination of staff and volunteer packers and drivers.

To learn more about how you can help in volunteering as little as two hours per week, contact Home Delivered Meals coordinator Patty Bowen at (661) 259-9444.
