CTIA Announces Sponsorship of New Billboard Ringtone Chart.


SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  -- CTIA-The Wireless Association(TM) announced today its sponsorship of the new Billboard Ringtone The audible sound made by a telephone to announce that a call is coming in. The traditional ringtone was in the 440-480 Hz range, but as cellphone usage grew, it became obvious that ringtone differentiation would become important.  Chart. Billboard, the world's leading music and entertainment trade publication and Consect, the leading provider of U.S. mobile market analysis, will debut the Ringtone Chart in the November 6th edition of Billboard.

Beginning next week, Billboard will publish the Top 20 ringtone sales for each week. The Ringtone Chart will list information such as song title, artist, previous week's position and number of weeks on the chart.

"Wireless consumers have demanded more capabilities for the personal consumption of music and the industry has once again met their need," continued Largent. "The mobile music market is an enormous growth industry and CTIA is proud to sponsor this exciting new enterprise."

The wireless industry continues to grow at a rapid pace. On Monday, CTIA released its Semi-Annual Wireless Survey, which showed a year-to-date subscriber increase of 14.5%.
