CTC Communications' PowerPath Network Performs Well During Recent Fiber Cut in Boston.

CTC Communications Group Inc. (CTC)(Nasdaq NM: CPTL) announced today that the Company's PowerPath(R) Network successfully rerouted over 1,000 customer's network services within minutes following the fiber optic and cable cuts that occurred in Allston, Massachusetts this past Tuesday. The Company further stated that substantially fewer network issues were reported due to the recent transition of their customers to CTC owned and redundant fiber facilities in the Boston area.

Mark Nelson, Director of Information Technology at Thayer Academy, a CTC customer, commented on the outage, "In recent months, CTC took proactive steps to ensure that our network connections were served on their redundant fiber facilities and routed around the Allston office that was effected. Thanks to CTC Communications, Thayer Academy employees and students didn't even realize that there was a major network issue effecting thousands of other customers until we turned on the news."

Russell Oliver Vice President of Network Operations for CTC commented, "CTC's PowerPath(R) Network was designed to withstand major events like the cable and fiber cut that occurred this week. The majority of our customers, as in the case of Thayer Academy, were not effected by this outage and many others whose last mile connection was effected by this cut, CTC was able to make a quick software change to redirect their calls to another destination of their choice." Oliver concluded, "This outage highlights the flexibility of our packet-based PowerPath(R) Network and is just one of the benefits of an infrastructure that allows CTC, at the stroke of a few keys, to reroute customer traffic to their other area offices, minimizing the effect on their business."
