CTA selects Xyvision's WebPorter and PDM for Air Force IWSD system; Will support over 1400 World Wide Web users.

WAKEFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 23, 1996--Xyvision announced today that CTA An abbreviation for cum testamento annexo, Latin for "with the will annexed."  INCORPORATED, a Colorado Springs based systems integrator serving both the Federal and Commercial markets, has selected Xyvision's WebPorter and Parlance Document Manager (PDM (1) (Product Data Management) An information system used to manage the data for a product as it passes from engineering to manufacturing. The data includes plans, geometric models, CAD drawings, images, NC programs as well as all related project data, notes and ) as part of an Integrated Weapon Systems Database (IWSD IWSD Institute of Water and Sanitation Development

The IWSD System will be used for the storage and upkeep of technical information related to system-to-system interfaces, including system interface descriptions for hundreds of systems which interface to exchange critical warning data for the United States and Canada.

Under contract with the U.S. Air Force, CTA began a search for a document management system that could handle the diverse requirements of the IWSD System, including:

o ability to author and maintain documents using SGML SGML
in full Standard Generalized Markup Language

Markup language for organizing and tagging elements of a document, including headings, paragraphs, tables, and graphics.
 editing and

traditional word processing applications o ability to concurrently manage five versions of the same information o a system that provides a high degree of security and data integrity o ability to create customized user interfaces o enterprise-wide integrated workflow processes that are tailorable at

the workgroup level o ability to make current information readily available to 1400

Department of Defense users throughout the world

After carefully evaluating several solutions, CTA chose Xyvision's WebPorter and Parlance Document Manager (PDM) because they were the best solution to fulfill the extensive system requirements.

According to Dave Knitt, CTA's Project Manager, "We had almost 100 very stringent requirements and Xyvision was the only vendor who proposed a cost-effective solution which addressed all of the requirements. Additionally Xyvision's proposed object-oriented relational database solution integrated with PDM is on the leading edge of technology for a document management system."

The Xyvision WebPorter/PDM solution will support 50 concurrent users who write, edit, and review technical, procedural and other information using PC-based SGML editors and word processing software. When information is approved, the original data will be stored in the PDM database as SGML or in native word processing format and automatically made available in HTML HTML
 in full HyperText Markup Language

Markup language derived from SGML that is used to prepare hypertext documents. Relatively easy for nonprogrammers to master, HTML is the language used for documents on the World Wide Web.
(Hypertext Markup Language (hypertext, World-Wide Web, standard) Hypertext Markup Language - (HTML) A hypertext document format used on the World-Wide Web. HTML is built on top of SGML. "Tags" are embedded in the text. A tag consists of a "<", a "directive" (in lower case), zero or more parameters and a ">". ) in a separate Web Repository. As master data changes, WebPorter will incrementally update and manage historical versions of data so that over 1400 authorized users around the world can view information that conforms to past, current, or future document baselines through cost-effective Web Browsers. WebPorter, combined with PDM, will manage the data conversion and content in the Web Repository as well as the associated tools, text and graphic elements, and project workflow.

Xyvision's PDM enables companies to manage information as objects in a common database, share and reuse these objects in multiple documents, and publish the same information in multiple media types. PDM supports objects of varying sizes and formats (including SGML fragments and non-SGML elements)
