CSX TRANSPORTATION REACHES CONDUCTOR-ONLY AGREEMENT WITH UTU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- CSX Transportation Inc. (CSXT) announced today that the United Transportation Union (UTU) has ratified an agreement that will eliminate brakemen positions on the former Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) portion of its system.
The agreement permits CSXT to operate freight service with only a conductor and engineer on the former C&O. The current agreement covers roughly one-tenth of the system, including all or portions of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.
With the ratification of this agreement, CSXT has virtually its entire rail system covered by conductor-only agreements.
Under the terms of the agreement, which does not include any train length, car limit or work-event restrictions, employees may elect to receive a voluntary separation package totaling $80,000, including a buyout of productivity fund and short-crew allowance.
CSXT and its 29,000 employees provide rail transportation and distribution services over an 18,900 route-mile network in 20 states, the District of Columbia and Ontario, Canada. CSXT is a business unit of CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX), headquartered in Richmond, Va.
