CSX Announces Two Senior Finance Appointments.

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The appointments of William H. Sparrow as senior vice president -- investment planning, and Anita P. Beier as vice president -- financial planning of CSX Corporation were announced today by Paul R. Goodwin, executive vice president -- finance of CSX Corporation.

Sparrow, 55, who began his career with a CSX predecessor company in 1967, had been vice president -- financial planning for the Fortune 500 transportation company. In his new position, Sparrow will oversee investment planning for CSX and will continue to advise senior management on the allocation of capital among the corporation's business units until his retirement, planned for early next year.

Beier, 43, had been senior vice president -- finance and administration and chief financial officer for CSX's former barge subsidiary, American Commercial Lines (ACL), in Jeffersonville, Ind. In her new position, she will oversee the capital budgeting and planning responsibilities previously held by Sparrow.

"These changes strengthen the team," Goodwin said. "Bill's experience and know-how will shape our financial strategies at this important time, and Anita will begin focusing on enhancing returns on invested capital to create more shareholder value."

Sparrow joined CSX in 1967 as a management trainee for Chessie System Inc. He served as senior financial analyst, manager of economic research and director of cost and economic analysis before becoming vice president and treasurer of CSX Corporation in 1985. He was promoted to his most recent position in 1996.

Sparrow earned his bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University. He serves as a director and treasurer of the Richmond Symphony, a trustee and treasurer of Trinity Episcopal School, and a director of the Hospital Hospitality House.

Beier joined CSX's railroad in 1981 as a financial analyst and held various positions, including director of economic research, assistant vice president, deputy controller and vice president of planning and analysis. In 1997, she became senior vice president of ACL.

Beier holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Maryland.
