CSUN WINS RIGHT TO HOUSE SMALL-BUSINESS PROGRAM.Byline: Brent Hopkins Staff Writer NORTHRIDGE - Four days before the North Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. Small Business Development Center's funding would have run out, California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , stepped in to keep the money flowing in the Valley. The U.S. Small Business Administration selected the university to serve as the local lead center for the program and will pay $2.9 million for its administration. Hosted by the Valley Economic Development Center, the program oversees Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. ``It's even better than we anticipated,'' said Roberto Barragan, VEDC's president. ``With CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge as the winning bidder, it brings it to the Valley and closer to us. We'll be working with them more closely than ever before.'' The development center will now bear responsibility for raising another $2.9 million from private donors and other sources. It generates a substantial amount of federally guaranteed loans annually, with Barragan estimating that up to $18 million will come next year. The California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency had been acting as the lead center, but state budget cuts caused it to withdraw.
