CSUN TO HOST PRIMPED POOCH PARADE.

More than 1,000 primped pooches - cleaned, groomed and on their best behavior - will take their turn in front of the judges today and Sunday at an American Kennel Club-affiliated dog show.

, the show is expected to draw more than 4,000 visitors to the California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , soccer fields for the two-day event.

``People love animals and these are the very best of the breed - they're beautifully groomed and cared for,'' said show superintendent Marion Bradshaw. ``This is where they can observe large numbers of a specific breed. ... You can meet breeders if you're interested in a family pet or if you're interested in this as a hobby.''

Dogs will be competing for valued points that can help them become championship dogs according to according to

The pooches won't be showing off their agility with jumps and tricks or their obedience skills, as those categories are not part of the weekend's show, organizers said.

But owners will have a chance to shop for must-haves - from a toy manchester terrier Manchester terrier, breed of sleek, alert terrier developed in England in the 19th cent. There are two varieties, the standard and the toy (see toy dog). The standard variety stands from 14 to 16 in. (35.6–40.6 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs about 16 lb (7.  windchime to leashes.

``Everything you can imagine,'' said Bradshaw.

Organizers advise visitors to bring a chair, but leave noncompeting dogs at home.
