Cal State Northridge athletic department officials and coaches are concerned about the student council's pledge to reallocate Verb 1. reallocate - allocate, distribute, or apportion anew; "Congressional seats are reapportioned on the basis of census data"

money generated from a student fee referendum in 1995 that was designed to save football.

The monies generated annually from the fee increase - $18 per student per year - is estimated at $480,000 and was directed for the football program. But the athletic department, which has an annual budget of $7.5 million, cut football nearly two months ago because of a growing budget deficit.

All that's going to do is adversely impact the 400 other student athletes.

``I'm not going to comment further than that. As far as I'm concerned, what they do is between them and the president (Jolene Koester Jolene Koester is the president of California State University, Northridge. Hunter said the student task force to keep football told school officials months ago that they shouldn't count on the referendum money if football was dropped.

Cross country and track coach Don Strametz, who's been at CSUN for 22 years, was disappointed with the news.

``Then the students will be taking away from programs who really deserve it - men's soccer, volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. The student government will meet with athletic department officials Friday to go over the annual budget.
