Jolene Koester will officially become the fourth president of California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , today during an inaugural ceremony that caps a week of festivities fes·tiv·i·ty

See Board of directors.  Chairman Laurence Gould will officially install Jolene Koester, who arrived on campus in July. The public is invited to the noontime inauguration, which will be held in front of the Oviatt Library, and the 1:30 p.m. reception in the Sierra Quad.

``This is a celebration of the university,'' said Marcella Tyler, chairwoman of the Inaugural Committee. ``President Koester's arrival has helped us focus on strengthening CSUN's connections with its community and created a more user-friendly environment on campus.''

The event, expected to draw several thousand guests, will also feature a unique musical performance. Just before Koester's speech, Music Department instructor Timothy Howard will play live music on the 222-bell campus carillon carillon, in music: see bell.

Later tonight, the university will host an inaugural gala and awards ceremony at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. The $75-per- ticket event is sold out, with attendance expected to top 400 guests.

The inauguration is the pinnacle of a weeklong celebration that has also included taking a photo of more than 1,000 students, alumni, faculty members and staff that may be used for a campus publicity poster, and the largest series of concerts put on by the university's music department.
