The band went from a regular Wednesday night gig at the Derby in Hollywood, playing for a few hundred people, . The band was featured in the college-age hit movie ``Swingers.'' ``This year's (picnic) is bigger. It makes students feel more welcome and lets them know there's more offered at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge than people may think,'' said Nathan Godwin, a 23-year-old senior. While most students milled around information tables, others ducked into the shade of thick treetops. In one corner, a young man wearing a crocheted beret lit incense sticks. About 200 administrators, including CSUN President Blenda Wilson, faculty and staff, helped serve up endless plates of food and cold drinks. A few folks showed off their best moves to the beat of the eight-piece band, swinging in circles on the dance floor. The party-like atmosphere set the tone for catching up with friends and professors, students said. ``This builds a connection to your campus by having an opportunity for fellowship between students and faculty,'' said Ryan E. Ballard, 25, treasurer of Alpha Phi Alpha Alpha Phi Alpha (ΑΦΑ) is the first intercollegiate fraternity established by African Americans. Founded on December 4, 1906, on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, as a social fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha has initiated over 175,000 men into fraternity. ``It allows you to see them as people.''
