CSUN ON ESPN! ALLOWING TWO TDS.Byline: Jill Painter Staff Writer Bad publicity is better than no publicity. At least that's how Cal State Northridge coach Jeff Kearin chose to look at it. His football program, which is expected to be eliminated next month because of a budget deficit, made a national ESPN ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network highlight Friday. Although, it was more of a lowlight lowlight Noun 1. an unenjoyable or unpleasant part of an event 2. (usually pl) a streak of darker colour artificially applied to the hair than highlight. During halftime of ESPN's Friday-night game between Boise State and Fresno State, ESPN showed the two 90-yard kickoff returns CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge allowed for touchdowns in its 38-31 loss to UC Davis on Oct. 13. As ESPN showed Jason Holleman returning the kickoffs, an ESPN analyst said: ``Cal State Northridge is considering dropping the football program. Apparently, they've already dropped kickoff coverage.'' ``Any exposure is good,'' Kearin said. ``I didn't see it, but half the kids saw it. It sounded like they were belittling be·lit·tle tr.v. be·lit·tled, be·lit·tling, be·lit·tles 1. It was a three-hour drive away. Turns out, the bus drivers took a wrong turn or two. So, Kearin had his bus stop at a convenience store. He bought a map, sat in the front seat and directed the trip to Troy. --Back to Troy? CSUN, which was respectable in a 44-31 loss to Troy State, has a two-year deal with Troy State, in which it receives $60,000 for Saturday's game and $70,000 for next season's game. But if CSUN (1-5) drops football, Troy State - which will be Division I-A next season - will be looking for a new opponent. UP NEXT Saturday at E.
