He's been back to the Pyramid since he took over as the Matadors coach - an 83-65 CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge victory in 1998. But this is the first time he'll be coaching as an opponent in the Big West Conference. ``One of the great things coming in to Long Beach as a young coach was that I had to teach classes and I really put my nose in and really had to do some grunt work,'' Braswell said. ``I really had to do some things that I think over the years, made me appreciate the things that I've gone through. The Long Beach years helped prepare me for the Northridge years.'' CSUN (4-10), which is in a three-way tie for third at 3-2 in the Big West, faces pesky Long Beach State (5-11, 1-4), which nearly upset Utah State on the road last week. Although the Matadors have a better record, they don't have something the 49ers do - a nice home. Braswell left Long Beach State for Oregon in 1992, about the same time the school broke ground on the 5,000-seat Pyramid. CSUN has the Northridge Gym, which has a capacity of just 1,600. --Don't be fooled: Long Beach State has a similar overall record as CSUN but has won just one conference game - over Cal State Fullerton. When asked if Hampton would play today, Braswell just smiled and shrugged his shoulders. ``Hopefully I can (play),'' Hampton said. ``I'm ready I'm Ready is the double platinum second release from R&B singer Tevin Campbell. CSUN (4-10, 3-2) update: The Matadors proved they can function without Markus Carr for stretches in games. CSUN freshman guard Curtis Slaughter has proven to be an effective scorer with four consecutive games in double figures.
