The introduction of a new athletic director Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  wasn't was·n't

the only news made by outgoing Cal State Northridge president Blenda Wilson and her successor, interim president Louanne Kennedy, in a press conference last week.

Wilson, when asked a question about the fund-raising fund-raising, large-scale soliciting of voluntary contributions, especially in the United States. Fund-raising is widely undertaken by charitable organizations, educational institutions, and political groups to acquire sufficient funds to support their activities.  abilities of Dick Dull, the new AD, deferred to Kennedy, who admitted the athletic department has been hindered by the university's policy on seeking donations.

Kennedy said CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  will allow the athletic department to seek out corporations and individuals who in the past haven't been approached because of their donations to other university departments.

``I have had a number of conversations over the past several months with (interim athletic director) Sam Jankovich Sam Jankovich was born in Butte, Montana and lettered in football while playing for the University of Montana in 1957. He played linebacker and offensive line. A knee injury ended his career.

After graduation, he coached a couple of Montana high school football teams.
about fund-raising,'' said Kennedy, who takes over next week in day-to-day duties as president. ``Sam (1) (Security Accounts Manager) The part of Windows NT that manages the database of usernames, passwords and permissions. A SAM resides in each server as well as in each domain controller. See PDC and trust relationship.  has already held one meeting with people in the community to identify those who will not only raise money but help to raise money from other sources.''

Kennedy also was forthcoming in CSUN's lacking in bringing money into the athletic department from outside sources. The department faces an $800,000 deficit in next year's budget.

``It is clear we do not raise the same amount of money in the community that other members of the Big Sky (Conference) do,'' she said. ``We need to have a greater thrust in that direction.''

Tennis bounced: CSUN, in keeping with its efforts to comply with the Cal-NOW legislation that requires equal participation and funding by the state's universities toward female athletes, scrapped its plans to add men's tennis as a sport next year.

``We need to be creative about recruiting additional sports to achieve participation with scholarship rates and operational expenditures for women,'' Wilson said. ``For Cal State Northridge, that is both a requirement of the Cal-NOW legal settlement, and it is also a commitment we accept as an ethical and moral responsibility.''

Gary Victor will continue to coach the women's tennis team.

Comings and goings: CSUN outfielder Outfielder is a generic term applied to each of the people playing in the three defensive positions in baseball farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder.  Matt Synhorst, who batted .323 and started 25 games this past season, left the program. The Matadors also announced last week they signed Matt Hellman, an All-Western State Conference outfielder from Glendale College. Hellman also played at Burroughs High.
