The Cal State Northridge men's basketball team received votes in the Associated Press's preseason Top 25 poll for the first time in the program's history.

``Hopefully we can go out and show those votes aren't a fluke,'' center Brian Heinle said. ``I think if we just become the best team we can be, I think we can be one of the best teams in the country. I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

``I think it's great for the program and the university,'' forward Jeff Parris said. ``It shows we're moving up in the world. It also shows we're not going to surprise any teams this year.''

CSUN also received one vote in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

``I told our players that it's nice to get that kind of recognition, but that right now we're 0-0 and we haven't proven anything,'' CSUN coach Bobby Braswell Bobby Braswell, an American basketball coach, is currently the head coach for Cal State Northridge. Braswell was named the fourth head coach in Northridge history on April 30, 1996, succeeding the retired Pete Cassidy.  said. ``It does go to show that we have been doing things the right way and that if we continue to improve and continue to work hard, you never know what's going to happen.''
