This home run was a rarity, indeed. It came off Jered Weaver Jered David Weaver (born October 4, 1982 in Northridge, California), is a Major League Baseball starting pitcher with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Jered attended college at Long Beach State University where he was the 2004 College Baseball's Golden Spikes Award winner.

``Yeah, I was thinking about it, I admit it'' Mahin said. ``I was just trying to get a base hit.''

. It was just the second home run Weaver has allowed all season. Weaver took off his cap, walked around the mound and then returned to his typical self.

Weaver wasn't as dominant as he has been but he was still awfully good. So was Long Beach State's offense, which had 20 hits. Weaver, a Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  High product, struck out six and walked two as Long Beach State pounded Cal State Northridge 15-4 Thursday in front of a crowd of 309.

It wasn't exactly the way CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  (13-19) wanted to start Big West play. But Weaver (10-0) hasn't lost all season. It just wasn't exactly the way Weaver wanted to start. After walking just nine batters before Thursday, Weaver walked the second batter of the game, Alberto Quintana, and then walked him again in the seventh.

He had five strikeouts, a rather pedestrian performance for the All- American, who had a school-record 16 strikeouts against Wichita State.

``I definitely wasn't 100 percent,'' Weaver said. ``I was a little stiff. It took me a while to get loose. But I was battling.''

Weaver, who many consider will be the No. 1 selection in the June amateur draft, scattered seven hits.

It was a special day for Weaver as his brother - Dodgers pitcher Jeff Weaver This article is about Major League Baseball player Jeffrey Weaver. For other people named Jeff Weaver, see Jeff Weaver (disambiguation).

``It's great. There's not too many times he gets to see me pitch,'' Weaver said. ``All my family was here today. It was cool.''

There also was also the usual assortment of scouts, too.

But it was probably Weaver's teammate, Steve Velazco, who had the most impressive day. After mishandling a fly ball early, Velazco robbed Michael Paulk of what probably would've been a home run as he caught the ball at the top of the wall in right field in the third inning. Everyone thought it was out - and most days at CSUN it would've been - and Velazco then doubled up John Voita at first.

Velazco also made a diving A DIV Associate of Divinity  catch in right in the fourth.

``I thought our guys did a really good job,'' CSUN coach Steve Rousey said. ``I told them Weaver is the best pitcher our hitters will ever face in their college careers. He's an unbelievable talent and has unbelievable skills.''
