CSUN LOSES 4TH IN A ROW LONGEST SKID SINCE 2002-03.

Byline: GERRY GITTELSON Staff Writer

IRVINE -- Cal State Northridge's fortunes took another tumble after its fourth consecutive defeat Saturday, an uninspired 75-66 Big West Conference loss at UC Irvine before 4,374 at Bren Events Center The Bren Events Center is the on-campus multipurpose indoor arena in Irvine, California. It is home to the University of California, Irvine Anteaters basketball and volleyball teams. It seats 4,984 for basketball and up to 5,608 for concerts. .

The skid is Northridge's longest losing streak since 2002-03, but with six games remaining, the Matadors (10-12, 3-6) believe their best days lie ahead.

``We're not ready to give up,'' guard Tre Peters said. ``We've just got to play Northridge basketball -- hard defense and running up and down the court. I feel like we're still hungry.''

Just 1-9 on the road this season, Northridge will play a four-game home stand -- its longest of the season -- beginning Thursday night against UC Riverside.

The Matadors could still get fourth place in the conference, which would give them a first-round bye in the Big West tournament.

``We're just 3-6, and a lot of the other teams have a lot of losses, too. This thing is far from over,'' coach Bobby Braswell Bobby Braswell, an American basketball coach, is currently the head coach for Cal State Northridge. Northridge didn't play good defense, especially in the second half, as UC Irvine finished 32 of 45 from the foul line foul line

``The refs don't take it easy on us,'' Peters said.

Just like Thursday's seven- point loss at Long Beach State, Northridge was in the game during the stretch but couldn't rise to the occasion.

``I was disappointed in our defense,'' Braswell said. ``We were down by one point (with five minutes left) and couldn't make those key stops.''
