CSUN HOMER HAPPY MATADORS BLAST 8, THANKS TO THE WIND CSUN 24, SAN DIEGO 14.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

The strong wind blowing out to right field can't be ignored when considering the eight home runs hit by the Cal State Northridge baseball team Saturday.

The Matadors just want to make sure the wind doesn't get too much credit.

In what CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  believes is indicative of its never-say-die attitude and offensive potential this season, the Matadors overcame an early seven-run deficit to defeat San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. A day after being held to one run on five hits, CSUN (1-1) pounded 21 hits against the nationally ranked Toreros (3-2). Quinn Ciccarelli and Mark McCauley both homered and had four hits apiece a·piece

Jesse Perez went 3 for 4 with two home runs and Michael Paulk and Alberto Quintana each went deep in a game that featured 10 home runs.

``A lot of players were looking at the flag poles when we got out here,'' Voita said. ``We knew if we got under it and went that way, we'd have a good chance. ... But it wasn't just the wind.''

San Diego starter Justin Blaine (1-1) aided CSUN's comeback when he threw the ball into center field on a potential inning-ending, double-play comebacker that instead brought the Matadors within one. Voita singled in the tying run, and Paulk walked with the bases loaded to give CSUN the lead for good at 8-7.
