CSUN HITS BIG TIME WITH TOP TV SHOW 'WEST WING' DIALOGUE GIVES PLUG TO CAMPUS.

NORTHRIDGE - Fresh off its historic victory on the basketball court, California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , may now have stolen UCLA's crown as Hollywood's darling with the appearance of a fictitious CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  professor on TV's top drama, ``The West Wing.''

In the episode that aired Wednesday night, White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg tells President Josiah Bartlet that while hosting a televised panel discussion on a new Mars probe, he will be joined by a panel of Mars experts including a scientist from the Johnson Space Flight Center, two NASA NASA: see National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

And it came just a week after CSUN made national headlines when its men's basketball team beat the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools. On the other hand, ``UCLA, they have a lot of good planetary geologists down there,'' concedes department instructional technician Dave Liggett.

Executive producer Aaron Sorkin writes most of the dialogue on ``The West Wing,'' according to a show spokeswoman. She couldn't explain why Sorkin, a graduate of the University of Syracuse, included a CSUN professor on the panel.

But others were quick to offer an opinion.

``That's because we beat UCLA - that's why they mentioned us,'' said Peter Weingand, a volcanologist with CSUN's geological sciences department.
