CSUN FOOTBALL: CSUN SAYS COACHES WELCOME TO RETURN.Byline: Lee Barnathan Staff Writer Cal State Northridge Northridge is the name of some places in the United States of America:
The coaches, Craig Wall and Keith Borges, who have been teaching physical education classes, expressed cautious optimism, but won't formally respond until they talk to their attorneys. Dull made his comments in light of a published report that Wall and Borges filed a claim alleging retaliation RETALIATION. The act by which a nation or individual treats another in the same manner that the latter has treated them. For example, if a nation should lay a very heavy tariff on American goods, the United States would be justified in return in laying heavy duties on the manufactures and because they cooperated with an internal investigation of the football program last summer. Wall said the university did not allow the two to coach this past season. The pair's move is the first step toward a formal lawsuit lawsuit: see procedure; tort. that could be filed if the university doesn't respond to the claim, which it received in mid-October. Dull denied the school retaliated in any way. ``They (Borges and Wall) did what they were told. They have done everything that's expected of them,'' Dull said. ``It's been communicated to them (before the filing that) they are welcome to come back and (fulfill ful·fill also ful·fil tr.v. ful·filled, ful·fill·ing, ful·fills also ful·fils 1. Wall and Borges, in separate interviews Tuesday, said they received contracts last week. ``They extended a contract to return to my position as defensive coordinator A defensive coordinator typically refers to a coach on a football team in the National Football League or college football who is in charge of the defense. This position aids the head coach a great deal in many ways by delegating play calling to other coaches and allowing the head ,'' Wall said. ``That's exciting. That's the least I would expect.'' Borges was more skeptical. ``It sounds positive,'' Borges said, ``but why did this come three, four, five days ago and not three months ago?'' Borges and Wall cooperated last summer with an internal investigation into alleged abuses within the football program under then-coach Ron Ponciano. The university eventually fired Ponciano and soon after hired Jeff Kearin as interim coach. Kearin assembled as·sem·ble v. as·sem·bled, as·sem·bling, as·sem·bles v.tr. 1. Kearin said he is willing to have Wall and Borges on his staff. ``The administration says we comply with what the lawyers want to do, and that's exactly what I will do,'' Kearin said. ``I totally understand my place in the pecking order pecking order Basic pattern of social organization within a flock of poultry in which each bird pecks another lower in the scale without fear of retaliation and submits to pecking by one of higher rank. Kearin said he left a message on Wall's answering machine but received no response. He never tried to reach Borges. ``I was told he wasn't interested in coaching the football team,'' Kearin said. ``I find it odd someone's making a decision based on what they heard,'' Borges said. Although Wall and Borges didn't coach, they were on the payroll as coaches and kept their assistant-coach titles. ``I've never refused to interview them. I've yet to lay eyes on them since I got here in July,'' Kearin said. ``There's never been any contact with them. . . . Money out of my budget paid their salaries.'' |
