CSUN FALLS BACK TO EARTH MATADORS NEARLY PULL ANOTHER UPSET, LOSING TO UNLV UNLV 70, CSUN 69.

LAS VEGAS Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States.  - Another road upset just wasn't to be.

Cal State Northridge made a late rally but fell short in a 70-69 loss to UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Marco McCain nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing to tie the game at 69-69 with 10 seconds left, the closest CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  came in the second half. McCain, however, then fouled Jermaine Lewis Jermaine Lewis (born October 16, 1974 in Lanham, Maryland) is an American football wide receiver in the NFL.

A star high school athlete at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, he was a two-time team MVP as a running back while also starring as a sprinter on the track team, setting
 with three seconds remaining. Lewis missed his first free throw but made his second.

CSUN (2-1) had the ball with 2.2 seconds left and got it into Brian Heinle. His 3-point try bounced off the glass. Heinle scored 32 points - two shy of his career high.

CSUN rallied from a nine-point deficit.

Joey Busch made two free throws with 1:20 left to cut UNLV's lead to 67-66. Busch then fouled Darlon Johnson and fouled out. Johnson made his second free throw to give UNLV a 68-66 lead with 52 seconds left.

Jeff Parris scored a career-high 27 points against UCLA but had just seven Saturday as he was in foul trouble, eventually fouling out.

Parris played just six minutes in the first half as he had two fouls. Things didn't get better as Parris picked up two quick fouls in the first four minutes of the second half and was sent to the bench. CSUN is a different team without Parris, a 6-5, 223-pound forward.

Despite poor shooting in the first half, the Matadors rallied. CSUN, down by seven points at halftime, cut UNLV's lead to 42-41 with 13:46 left.

The Matadors started the game with a Heinle dunk, set up by an assist from Markus Carr. Busch had a tip-in and then he nailed a hook shot over Kaspar Kambala, who fouled out late, to give CSUN a 6-0 lead.

UNLV didn't score for the first three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. It is the twenty-second episode of the second season. The episode was directed by Stephen Williams, and written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. It first aired on May 17, 2006 on ABC. . Johnson hit a basket but missed the opportunity for a three-point play.

CSUN went cold in the first half as it hit just 13 of 38 shots (34.2 percent), including 0 for 9 on 3-point attempts.

With 8:00 left in the first half, both teams were 8 of 22 (36 percent) from the field. UNLV took a 37-30 lead into halftime.

Heinle had 16 first-half points but no other CSUN player had more than six first-half points.

Busch, who sat out the final 9 minutes of the first half against UCLA, played only three minutes in the first half after picking up two quick fouls. He picked up another two quick fouls in the second half.

He returned to the game but had two consecutive shots blocked by Johnson. Both of those blocks came in a 6-0 UNLV run, which gave it a 50-45 lead midway through the second half.

The Matadors had just five turnovers in the first half compared to 11 for the Matadors. CSUN had 14 first-half turnovers against UCLA but just five in its second-half comeback.

--Top guns: CSUN continued its success against a team's star player. Kambala, who averaged 24.5 points per game before Saturday, didn't score a point until 7:18 left in the first half. Kambala converted a three-point play and scored only one other basket the rest of the half for five points.

--Tough schedule: UNLV already had played two tough opponents before its game with CSUN. UNLV lost to No. 8 Illinois 74-69 and Louisville 86-85 in overtime. Both games were in the Maui Invitational last week.
