CSUN CAN'T STOP USC'S CLARK.

Good thing the Women of Troy had Kristin Clark.

The senior point guard scored 21 points to help her team beat Cal State Northridge 77-68 Saturday night at the Lyon Center.

And to think, USC coach Chris Gobrecht said this was an average night for Clark. Yet the 5-foot-7 guard seemed to be the only one who came to play in the first half, scoring 15 points.

``She's struggling with her shot, but she's handling the ball just about as well as anyone in the country,'' Gobrecht said.

All of Clark's points and ballhandling skills came in handy Saturday.

USC (4-3) played with just eight players. The Women of Troy already were without Kristin's twin sister, Kim, who broke her leg playing soccer, and junior guard Erica Mashia, whose comeback from hip surgery has been derailed by an anterior cruciate ligament injury anterior cruciate ligament injury Sports medicine An injury most common in sports characterized by abrupt changes of direction–eg, football, skiing, tennis, soccer Clinical Swelling, tenderness of knee Management ACL reconstruction via arthroscopy .

Plus, senior forward Adria Sneed was back home in Washington because her grandfather had died.

So USC played with three freshmen and two sophomores, although not all started. Still, the mistakes were aplenty a·plen·ty

Elmore collided with each other, resulting in a turnover. And freshman Camille Norwood lost the ball by bouncing it off her foot.

Even Clark wasn't immune. She committed eight turnovers, including a backcourt back·court

But when the Women of Troy needed points, she scored them or made the passes. Williams finished with 11 points, and Tiffany Washington and Elmore had 10 apiece.

``With me, I had no doubt we weren't going to lose,'' she said.

Northridge (4-4) made a game of it, cutting a 15-point deficit to 71-66 with 3 minutes, 26 seconds left to play. But it wasn't enough to overcome Clark and the 33 turnovers.

Not even Edniesha Curry's 30 points, 21 of which came in the second half, could offset the mistakes.

And there were plenty. Northridge got called for five offensive fouls and several traveling and double-dribble violations.

As a result, the Matadors ended the week on a three-game losing streak, having dropped games to Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine and now USC.

``We showed signs of potential we have, but there were numerous times we kept shooting ourselves in the foot,'' Northridge coach Frozena Jerro said. ``Same thing happened against Pepperdine. Same thing happened against Loyola. We give ourselves the opportunity, but we don't see it through.''

Tina Greer was the only other Northridge player in double figures, scoring 11 points.
