CSUN BEATS TOROS BY 44; DECISION ON HIGGINS MAY BE TODAY : CSUN 115, CS DOMINGUEZ HILLS 71.

Byline: Marc J. Spears Daily News Staff Writer

The game played out like the varsity toying with the junior-varsity squad, or big brother picking on little brother.

Call it what you want, but Cal State Dominguez Hills provided just what Cal State Northridge needed in its last tuneup before Big Sky Conference play begins.

The Matadors routed the Division II Toros Toros,a version of Greek word Taurus, may refer to:

  • Taurus Mountains(Toros Dağları or Toroslar) a mountain range in southern Turkey
  • TOROS missile (TOpçu ROket Sistemi) a short range missile
by 44 points during a 115-71 triumph in front of 761 at the Matadome on Monday night.

CSUN's 115 points was its second most since joining the Division I ranks during the 1990-91 season. The school-record is 123 points against U.S. International on Jan. 28, 1991.

The Matadors (4-6) also earned their first two-game winning streak Noun 1. winning streak - a streak of wins

by way of two Division II schools (they defeated North Florida on Dec. 23).

CSUN's league opener is Friday against host Portland State (5-4), which plays at Duke today.

``We needed this game going into conference,'' said Braswell, who gave every scholarship player at least nine minutes of action. ``We we were able to score inside and outside, and we received great contributions from a lot of people.''

CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  forward Jabari Simmons scored a game-high 21 points, guard Greg Minor Greg Magado Minor (born September 18, 1971 in Sandersville, Georgia) is an American former NBA basketball player.

Having averaged 12.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in three seasons at the University of Louisville, Minor was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers as the
added 18 points (four 3-pointers) off the bench and guard Carl Holmes had 17 points and a career- and game-high nine rebounds.

Northridge also set season highs for first-half points (55), second-half points (60), field goals made (42), field-goal percentage (51.9), 3-pointers made (13, tie), total rebounds (53) and assists (29).

Dominguez Hills (3-6), which has just 6-1/2 scholarships, was led by guards Calvin Patterson and Kevin Polk, who both had team-highs of 13 points.

``We've been struggling, but we start league 0-0,'' Simmons said. ``I can say for sure that we are ready.''

Braswell will likely have a decision on guard Derrick derrick: see crane.

Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  games in the future. He is expected to know something more definite today. The telecasts will probably include selected home games in the Big Sky Conference and the league tournament. CSUN football is only program to have all of its games aired this season.
