CSR success has been achieved at the same time as continued growth in, the overall market for Bluetooth which has increased by over 90% compared to 2004.

CSR is the acknowledged leader within the Bluetooth market, through its development of a portfolio of single chip solutions for wireless voice and data communication. This covers basic Bluetooth file exchange Bluetooth File Exchange is a utility that comes with the Mac OS X operating system, used to exchange files to or from a Bluetooth-enabled device. For example, it could be used to send an image to a Bluetooth cell phone, or to receive an image or other document from a PDA with  to complex stereo music and call management capability for the new wireless stereo headset market targeted for use with mobile phones and portable media players.

"CSR has achieved significant growth over the past eight quarters to qualify for the Outstanding Financial Performance by a Public Fabless Company Fabless Company

The Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) defines fabless as follows:

Fabless (without fab) refers to the business methodology of outsourcing the manufacturing of silicon wafers, which hundreds of semiconductor companies have adopted.
Award. We congratulate CSR on attaining this financial benchmark," said Jodi Shelton, co-founder and executive director of FSA. "CSR demonstrates its leadership serving on FSA's European Leadership Council, supporting the Association's regional and global initiatives."

During 2005, the company opened design centres in Lund, Sweden and Sophia Antipolis, France and acquired both Clarity Technologies Inc and the software business of UbiNetics Holdings Limited in order to further extend CSR's wireless technology offering.

This growth was acknowledged by the Outstanding Financial Performance Award which recognised the steep increase in CSR's revenue and net income over eight consecutive quarters, ending in June 2005.

On accepting the award, Goodridge commented, "2005 has been an outstanding year for us. Our core Bluetooth market has grown and developed at a rapid rate and we have developed our offering to include other wireless standards which offer even more potential for growth in 2006 and beyond." He continued, "This recognition from our peers of the fabless semiconductor community is extremely important to us. BlueCore has set the benchmark for Bluetooth connectivity and we hope to offer the same levels of technical innovation and foresight to the other areas of our product offering."

About CSR

CSR plc is the leading global provider of Bluetooth technology and has developed expertise in other single-chip wireless communication standards such as Wi-Fi (IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields. 802.11). CSR offers developed hardware/software solutions for Bluetooth based around BlueCore, a fully integrated 2.4 GHz radio, baseband and microcontroller.

CSR has now launched its fifth generation BlueCore suite and is in volume manufacture of its fourth generation BlueCore devices. BlueCore4 supports the Enhanced Data Rate (EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) An acronym occasionally used to reflect an advancement in transmission or transfer speed. For example, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR provides a dramatic increase in speed over the previous version. See Bluetooth. ) standard which was ratified at the end of 2004. BlueCore4 remains the only EDR silicon to be shipping in volume today. In November 2004 CSR launched UniFi, the first single chip 802.11a/b/g embedded solution specifically targeting the mobile phone and consumer electronics markets.

BlueCore features in over 50 per cent of all Bluetooth devices shipped and over 60 per cent of all qualified Bluetooth enabled products and modules listed on the Bluetooth website with industry leaders including Nokia, Dell, Panasonic, Sharp, Motorola, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Apple, NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
, Toshiba, RIM and Sony using BlueCore devices in their range of Bluetooth products.

In March 2005, CSR acquired Clarity Technologies Inc., for its Clear Voice Capture (CVC See CSC. ) technology that enhances the audio performance of any voice-based product or system. Applications for CVC include wireless headsets, handsets and automotive hands free systems.

In August 2005, CSR completed the acquisition of UbiNetics' software business, providing a strong R&D team to accelerate its existing software development in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and UWB (Ultra-WideBand) A wireless technology that uses less power and provides higher speed than 802.11 Wi-Fi networks or first-generation Bluetooth products. UWB is expected to provide wireless video transmission for home theater systems, cable TV, auto safety and . The UbiNetics team gives CSR the capacity to extend its offering to mobile handset customers.

CSR has its headquarters and offices in Cambridge, UK, and offices in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, India, France, Denmark, Sweden and both Texas and Detroit in the USA.
