CSR (LSE:CSR) today launched a high-speed, high-accuracy embedded positioning software product called the E5000. As part of its portfolio of GPS demonstrations at 3GSM World Congress, CSR will be showcasing E5000 on a number of platforms including the advanced 3DLabs multimedia processor and the most popular PND (Personal Navigation Device) A portable GPS-based navigation system that can be used when walking, hiking or in any vehicle. See GPS.  (personal navigation device A Personal Navigation Device (PND) is a portable electronic product which combines a positioning capability (such as GPS) and navigation functions.

The earliest PND were hand-held GPS units (circa mid 1980s) which were capable of displaying the user's location on an
) platform, the Samsung 2440.

CSR provides the most cost competitive, feature-rich GPS solution on the market, allowing very short Time To First Fix (TTFF TTFF Time To First Fix (GPS)

), enhanced tracking accuracy, small footprint, and low power consumption. CSR's GPS solution is software-based and requires no further hardware beyond a RF front-end, hence the E5000 requires less than half the power and significantly less space than competing hardware GPS solutions.

Matthew Phillips, Senior Vice President of CSR's Mobile Handset Connectivity Business Unit commented, "CSR's ability to offer the highest level of GPS capability at significantly lower cost with such small footprint and power requirements is of real advantage to our customers. These features make positioning viable in every mobile phone and other portable applications." Phillips continued, "During 2007, CSR will enable customers to employ seamless location, including indoor positioning, support for the European Galileo system and location aware technology. CSR ultimately offers a superior user experience."

CSR's E5000 software is available for multiple operating systems and various hardware platforms and enables flexible application and service delivery.

CSR will be demonstrating its high-sensitivity, A-GPS A-GPS Assisted Global Positioning System (used in mobile communications as a positioning system)  solutions at 3GSM with its global GPS assistance server supporting standardised SUPL SUPL Secure User Plane Location (wireless standard)  (secure user plane location) for use in mobile handsets.
